1.  Each year the Club runs Beginners Courses, the aim being to teach Candidates to be capable of partaking in the sport of Archery 'Safely', and it is hoped, 'fairly successfully', should they wish to join an Archery Club (not necessarily this Club).

2. The Course consists of 10 hours of instruction which is arranged in five two hourly sessions and all equipment required during the course is provided by the club. The cost of courses in 2011 is £50 per person.

3. Before even considering applying for a place for a Junior, Parents/Guardians should be aware of the following:
3.1. Candidates must be over 10 years old at the start of the Course and that Candidates aged under 12 will only be accepted on a Course if a Parent or Guardian is a Candidate on the same Beginners Course.

3.2. Parents/Guardians of Juniors between the ages of 12 and 16 must remain in attendance at all times.

Additional Information:

Previous experience has shown that, following a course, many Parents/Guardian have expressed the view that they wished that they had also joined the course at the same time as the Junior Candidates therefore consideration should be given by Parents and Guardians of Juniors between 12 and 18 (see note 3,1, above) to becoming Candidates at the same time.

‘Archery’ is often offered as part of holiday pursuits and some of our Candidates have ‘done it before’ however to ensure that a consistent standard is achieved, all Candidates will be taught on a basis that they are new to the sport and will be instructed in shooting techniques as taught to Archery Coach’s whilst partaking in the National Sports Coaching Scheme run by Archery GB (the trading name of the Grand National Archery Society).

All Candidates will be taught to shoot using the Club’s Recurve training Bows on a Target Archery Range, and, in order to ensure that our course is as comprehensive as possible, a practical session of Field Archery will be held on our Field Archery Range.  During the course there are practical demonstrations and lectures on Recurve (Olympic) Bows; Compound Bows; Longbows; Types of Archery and Field Archery and a handout for each Candidate’s course portfolio accompanies each element.

Following completion of the course successful Candidates will be offered an additional session where those who wish to continue in the sport of archery by joining an Archery Club will be given a full briefing on what further guidance and assistance will be available to them and potential outlay that would be needed for the Candidates to have their own equipment.  The primary aim of the brief being to ensure that those wishing to join an Archery Club are totally aware of all this would involve (particularly relevant to Parents/Guardians).
